3 Tips From Our Skincare Workshop

3 Tips From Our Skincare Workshop

Hello, Beautiful. Here’s what you missed last weekend!

On April 5th, we had the pleasure of conducting a skin-health workshop hosted by our friends at Sun Harvest Greenhouses as a part of their wellness Saturday series. We got to spend the day in a roomful of lovely, curious, attendees who are as passionate about mindful skincare and wellness as we are!

Everyone asked amazing questions, and stayed beyond their time to truly understand who we are and why what you put on your skin matters. We couldn’t imagine a better way to spend a weekend.

We don’t anyone to miss out, so we thought we’d offer three takeaways from our presentation.

If you want to delve into LAKE+MAIN’s take on modern skin health, and how our brand fits into the world of conscious skincare, subscribe to our email list for a FREE copy of our Ebook! This resource covers all things natural, walks you through industry red flags, and takes you behind the curtains into how we formulate our products, and why ingredients matter.

Here’s a taste of what you can expect:

Greenwashing: What it is, & How to Avoid it

In 2025, the natural skincare industry is a booming, multi-billion dollar market. This means a few things. First, it indicates that more and more users are aware of the importance of sustainability, and putting their money where their values are.

But, it also creates space for opportunistic companies to get in on the action by branding themselves as “sustainable” or “clean”, without the practices to actually back it up. This is greenwashing.

Identify Red Flags With Our Greenwashing Guide

Greenwashing thrives on vague claims, making it challenging for well-intentioned consumers to make informed skincare choices. Here’s a sneak peak of our guide on how to identify greenwashing, and find brands genuinely committed to sustainability:

Tactic Greenwashing Language Genuine Sustainability
Ambiguous Language Phrase like “plant-based” or “clean” without explanation of sourcing or manufacturing methods. Full disclosure of ingredient sourcing and production methods in plain, accessible language.
Exaggerated Benefits Claims of being “sustainable” or "carbon-neutral" with no supporting evidence or transparency. Detailed reporting of sustainability efforts, recyclable packaging.
Hidden Ingredients Promoting “green” products that still contain harmful chemicals not prominently disclosed (Fragrance, Parfum/Perfume, etc.). Transparent ingredients lists, free from harmful substances hidden in misleading language.

Special Delivery: Your Skin as a Delivery System

You know that skincare is an amazing way to protect and nourish our skin, but did you know that your skin is also an incredible delivery system? Just like the food we eat affects our health and how we feel, the products we apply to our skin are absorbed into our bloodstream, impacting our well-being.

Our skin is a semi-permeable membrane that allows certain molecules to pass through. This means that beneficial ingredients, like the ones we carefully select for our products, can work wonders below the surface. It also means that harmful chemicals in conventional skincare can enter our body the same way. This makes ingredient selection critical.

Hormonal Distruptors: The Hidden Danger in Skincare

Many mainstream skincare products contain chemicals known as endocrine disruptors (EDCs), which interfere with natural hormone balance. These substances can mimic or block hormones, impacting metabolism, reproductive health, and even mood. Here are some common EDCs to look our for:

  • Parabens – Preservatives linked to estrogenic activity and hormone disruption.
  • Phthalates – Found in synthetic fragrances and associated with reproductive toxicity.
  • Sulfates (SLS, SLES) – Harsh foaming agents that strip the skin’s natural barrier and may contribute to endocrine disruption.
  • Synthetic Fragrances – Often a mix of undisclosed chemicals, some of which may be hormone disruptors.

LAKE+MAIN sees skincare as an extension of our values—a commitment to intentional living, longevity, and a deep connection with what we put in and on our bodies. You’ll never find any synthetic chemicals or EDCs in our products.

The Big 6: Unlock the Power of Lymphatic Drainage

Have you ever taken a hot yoga class, or even a hot shower or sauna, and noticed you felt lighter, less bloated, and more energetic? This is thanks to lymphatic drainage. Our lymphatic system plays a key role in detoxification, immune function, and fluid balance.

While our circulatory system operates automatically through our heart pumping blood, our lymphatic system relies on our movement, and manual stimulation to keep flowing properly. The Big 6 are six key areas in the body that we can stimulate to reduce puffiness, congestion and toxin buildup.

How to Identify The Big 6

You don’t need an appointment at a spa to experience the benefits of lymphatic massage. Use a gentle, rhythmic technique to stimulate lymph flow in these key areas:

  1. The Clavicle (Collarbone Area): Located just above and below your collarbones. Clears congestion and improves immune function.
  2. The Upper Neck: Along the muscles on the side of your neck. Drains lymph from the face, head and brain, cleaning sinuses and reducing headaches.
  3. The Axillary (Armpit) Nodes: In and around your armpits. Filters toxins from your arms, chest, and upper back to relieve tightness or swelling in the arms.
  4. The Abdomen: Around your stomach, hips, and below your ribs. Detoxifies the digestive system to reduce bloating and support gut health.
  5. The Groin: In the crease where your leg meets your body. Filters fluid from the lower body, improving circulation in the legs to reduce swelling or fatigue.
  6. The Knee: The soft area behind your knees. Drains excess fluid and toxins from the lower legs and feet to reduce swelling and improve circulation.
