Navigating Skincare During Menopause: Tips and Solutions

Navigating Skincare During Menopause: Tips and Solutions

If you’re reading this blog, you probably don’t need us to explain the symptoms of menopause to you. What we will do, however, is target six of the most common, skin-related issues that come with menopause and pair them with our favourite natural remedies.

At Lake+Main, we believe that taking care of your skin during menopause isn’t about fighting against change, but embracing a new phase of life with simple, nourishing solutions. Let’s dive into how menopause affects your skin and what you can do to continue looking and feeling your best.

Understanding the Impact of Menopause on Your Skin

The key link between menopause and changes in the skin is estrogen. During menopause, estrogen levels decline, and this hormonal shift manifests in different ways.

You might notice your skin becoming drier, or maybe you’ve started seeing fine lines and wrinkles deepen. Other common concerns include puffiness, dark circles, rosacea, and even unexpected acne.

The good news: these changes are normal and completely manageable. Natural skincare works best when it compliments the body’s processes. Menopause is a new chapter, and there are natural solutions to help smooth your skin’s transition into this phase.

Tips for Managing Dryness and Fine Lines

One of the biggest culprits behind menopausal skin changes is the decrease in collagen production. As collagen levels drop, the skin struggles to retain moisture and loses elasticity. This can lead to dryness and more defined lines and wrinkles.

Our Tips:

  • Hydration is key. Incorporate products with castor seed oil and Vitamin E to help your skin retain moisture and brighten your complexion.
  • Our NOURISH moisturizing serum uses these ingredients to draw moisture from the air into your skin and protect from free radical damage.

Reducing Puffiness and Dark Circles

Menopause can often cause puffiness and dark circles around the eyes. As estrogen levels drop, the skin begins to thin which affects fluid retention and makes blood vessels more visible.

Our Tips:

  • For a short term fix, cooling treatments like cucumber slices and cold spoons are a great way to temporarily boost circulation and tighten the skin around the eyes.
  • For a long-term solution, look for products like our Bright Eyes Radiant Eye Oil that use natural caffeine and nourishing botanicals to brighten the skin.

Managing Rosacea and Acne in Menopausal Skin

Menopause can exacerbate skin sensitivities, or bring on new ones altogether. Rosacea flare-ups and adult acne are not uncommon as these hormonal changes make the skin more prone to inflammation.

Our Tips:

  • If you’ve struggled with acne during menopause, choosing an alcohol-free toner can help you avoid unnecessary moisture loss. Opt for products like BALANCE that use witch hazel and aloe vera to soothe the skin without irritating it.
    • NOTE: Those with rosacea and extra sensitive skin may want to avoid toners altogether.
  • Look for moisturizers that use chamomile oil. This can soothe your skin and even accelerate cell and tissue renewal. We favour natural moisturizers (like GLOW) because they’re easily absorbed by your skin, and don’t sit on the surface causing breakouts.

The Importance of a Consistent Skincare Routine

The best thing you can do for your skin is to create a wellness routine that prioritizes nourishment and consistency. This can feel overwhelming, especially with so many buzzwords, trends, and contradictory information circulating in the skincare world.

That’s why we’ve made it simple with The Six Collection. We curated these essential skincare products to nourish your skin naturally. Consistency is key—using the right products regularly can delay the visible affects of menopause on your skin.

At Lake+Main, our mission is to use the wisdom of nature to help you work with your body to feel confident and comfortable at every phase in life.
